I'm trying to run the data migration script, and I'm not sure if it's succeeding or failing. Here's the console output:

Looking at Windows application log, I can see a failure audit message from MSSQL$SQLEXP_VIM saying "Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. [CLIENT: <local machine>]", immediately followed by a success audit saying "Login succeeded for user 'DOMAIN\Administrator'. Connection: trusted. [CLIENT: <local machine>]". After that it backs up VIM_VCDB, logs in again, puts VIM_VCDB in restoring state, and restores it from D:\Install\datamigration\data\vc\vc_source_orig_db.

I've got no idea how to proceed here. How safe is it to take the datamigration folder to the new 2008R2 machine and try the install there?

Hi is it live server or testing server .

if live be cautious before upgrading

Here is a really rough list of steps, taken from the Upgrade Guide:

01. Build out new 64-bit VM for vCenter
02. Prep new vCenter VM for SQL connectivity/dependencies
03. Backup the existing database.
04. Backup current vCenter data using the Data Migration Tool
05. Use the data migration tool to start the vCenter Server installer  and restore the vCenter Server configuration to the destination machine.
06. Shut down the old vCenter server.
07. Restore the vCenter Server Configuration and Install vCenter Server on the New server
08. Update the vCenter Server Name for Plug-Ins (If the new vCenter has a different name)
09. Test
