If you have another user with root privileges, you can reset the root password by following this KB http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1004659
Else, if you have no root permissions whatsoever, you have to reinstall ESXi.
