I came across a situation where I have a vCenter running from local storage on a single host cluster and I want to use Update Manager to remediate that host. Is there a way? Without the obvious migrate the vCenter to shared storage answer? I think I can stage the updates using Update Manager, but is there a way to manually remediate while vCenter is turned off so the host can go into maintenance mode? I really don't want to have to apply each offline bundle individually but I guess that may be my only choice. Hopefully Update Manager leaves a script for remediation when it stages all the updates. Where are the updates stored during the staging process and are they in a standard offline bundle format?
By the way, vCenter/Update Manager is 5.5U1b. The host is currently ESXi5.1U1 (I think).
