Changing EVC Mode

Hello,
I am downgrading the EVC mode to Westmere to comply with an older generation of host we are adding to the cluster.

To do this,  I currently have two clusters created,  on which is production and has two hosts using sandybridge.

the second cluster has one host in it and will be westmere generation.

I am aware of the procedure found here:VMware KB: Enabling EVC on a cluster when vCenter Server is running in a virtual machine

My question is,  rather than vmotioning all the machines to another hosts.  is it possible to shut down all the virtual machines on a host,  put it in maint mode,  disconnect the host,  move it to the Westmere cluster enable it,  and then power back on all the virtual machines?

I am aware I will still have to disconnect and reconnect my vcenter server,  but I would like to avoid having to vmotion a large amount of machines if I can find downtime to shut them all down.  and have them move with the host.

is this idea possible?
