Re: Installation of ESXi before vCenter Server? How can I get vCenter Server on a VM on the ESXi servers?

Thank you for the response.

That was my understanding of the process until I read the installation instructions that put vCenter first.

There are no other ESXi servers.  These 2 servers (I'll be utilizing the High Availability capabilities) are the first and only ones that will exist.  It is the first VMware implementation for both myself and my organization.  It will be a small implementation, with only 2 hosts in HA configuration and 4 VMs.

The architecture I was planning was for the 3 VMs that are running the business related applications and the 1 vCenter VM to be on the ESXi servers and the vSphere client to be on another VM on a separate laptop (as pictured on the attached .jpg).

So, then the question is how do I create a VM for the vCenter Server when just ESXi is installed on the servers?  I am not familiar with appliances.
