Thank you for your answer. I think I am following most of what you are telling me. So do not point both vCenters at the same MSSQL DB. I thought that may be a problem. I will stand up another new VM to house new fresh MS SQL DB instance, and the Update Manager service then. I don't care about loosing legacy performance data so this should work out fine for us. It also seems like I may not have a grip on how Linked mode is used either? You are saying don't use linked mode to get the hosts from one vCenter to another? So would I just stand up the 5.5 server suite independent of the other 5.0 environment, unmanage or unlink my ESXi hosts from the existing 5.0 vCenter instance, and then link them to the new 5.5 vCenter instance? Would probably want to turn off HA and some of the other gadgets before hand so things don't freak out during the process too right? Otherwise do I have the basic idea?
