Having issues setting up a 5.5 vCenter Server VM in a non-domain configuration...

I'm trying to set up a vCenter Server VM (fresh install, not upgrade) without an Active Directory domain available.  I have been able to do this successfully in the past with 5.0 and 5.1, but now with 5.5 I have issues.

The SSO installation runs fine, and displays expected warnings that the server is not on a domain, and that the certificate will be linked to the IP.

When I then try to run the Inventory Service installer, it fails when trying to connect to SSO:

"Could not connect to vCenter Single Sign On.  Make sure that the Lookup Service URL points correctly to the vCenter Single Sign On instance you installed.  If vCenter Single Sign On is installed with an IP address, make sure the IP address is specified in the URL."

In 5.0 and 5.1, in order to get this installation to run correctly, I would enter the IP address in the URL (like it says in the error) and it would run fine.  So the address provided for the Lookup Service URL is https://<IP_Address>:7444/lookupservice/sdk

I've tried multiple variations for the FQDN and Lookup Service URL fields with no success.

Can anyone confirm a successful off-domain installation for 5.5?  And if so, try to point me in the right direction?
