Re: Upgrade Process Preparation

I’m using a QNAP NAS for now, just to get everything off local storage. I didn’t see it listed on the HCL, however, it is on the network and presented to both environments so it doesn’t appear to be an issue…

I have installed the vCenter Appliance in the 5.5 environment but am having issues with the configuration. I got 1 of the 2 blades added to the cluster but keep getting an error while adding the 2nd. I haven’t tried adding the 4.1 host. I want to get vCenter working properly first.

I will have to do a COLD MIGRATION as the older server has 75XX series CPU and the new one is 26XX

After getting lots of good information from this community it appears my biggest hurdle will be the existing network environment. I created a test server on the 4.1 host and only gave it a 40GB partition. I copied it to my NAS to check speeds. It was then I realized everything is on 100MB.

It took 3 hours to copy 40GB. I am now in the process of procuring a GIG SWITCH. The server NIC’s are GB so that won’t be an issue.

In regards to the VDR, I was only planning on using it as there is no VMWare backup solution, just BUEX running on the servers. I wanted to get a good backup before I started moving things. Is there a better, quick solution?

Also, I was told that the my vCenter Appliance should be v9, not v10   From the install it is v7. Is the upgrade for that done via the vCenter Web Client? I don’t have that functioning yet, again, configuration issues…

Thanks for all the info…
