We have three (3) ESXi 5.0 U3 hosts and I don't know yet when they can be upgraded to run 5.5 -- two are not on the HCL for 5.5 (HP Gen5) and one I do not know if it will be on the HCL for the next vSphere release this summer (HP Gen7).
So I am waiting before getting new host servers.
However I know I can use VCA 5.5 to manage these hosts and their associated VMs.
My understanding of how to go about it is this:
1) Install new VCA, move the hosts to it
2) Install VUM (only) to another server which also contains SQL server
3) Install the web client and the thick vCenter 5.5 client to my notebook
4) Use the web client for everything and only use the thick vCenter 5.5 client with the VUM plugin for host remediation, which is the only reason I need VUM.
Is this the proper way to go about using 5.5 to manage our 5.0 hosts and VMs??
Anything special I must know beforehand about SSO or Active Directory etc.??
Can I can set up EVC for the hosts (two hosts have different processors than the third host) within the VCA??
Thank you, Tom
